Obertan moved to Manchester United in July 2009 for an undisclosed fee from Bordeaux.
Although the winger moved from the French champions, he had spent the second half of the 2008-09 season on loan with Lorient.
The 20-year-old midfielder is regarded as one of France's brightest prospects and was linked with a host of top clubs, including Inter Milan, AC Milan, Chelsea and Arsenal.
He was awarded the Most Valuable Player award at the Toulon International Youth Tournament in June 2009.
Obertan, a Paris-born France Under-21 international, can fill several attacking roles.
